DIY 2.0

15 08 2008

This isn’t in any way library orientated, but it is incredibly cool. Thanks to my Google alert e-mail this morning, I discovered LED Throwies. They’re little more than a watch battery, a magnet and an LED, you get a handful and throw them at something metal et voila, instant flashy non-damaging graffiti art:

They came about by people applying web 2.0 creative / DIY principles to technology outside computers, the idea being ‘if I can customise my web experience, why can’t I customise things outside of my computer?’ I read about throwies in this article on Make magazine, which is a DIY hobby magazine for under-stimulated techie types. Looks like a lot of fun, next payday I’m buying a load, turning the lights off and throwing them at the fridge!
