Ning the Merciless

10 09 2008

I had my first go on Ning today, having got over my Facebook-inflicted blindness to any other social networking site. My initial impression is that Ning is  a continuation of Facebook’s original format as an invite-only network for college alumni, i.e. you have to be invited to join networks so there’s an element of control and exclusivity to it. I find this idea of exclusivity quite appealing, in as much that, once invited, you have a lot more say in who can befriend you and in what context you choose to interact with people in. It could be a solution to the work / social divide that Facebook awkwardly straddles: one network for work, one for your social life and you can decide on the overlaps.
